Northern Business Forum

Who we are

tyneBridgeAtNightThe NBF is a membership body, which represents the collective interests of business in the region. Our members include the  North East Chamber of Commerce, CBI, Institute of Directors, EEF and Federation of Small Business.

The NBF faciliates dialogue between the public and private sector bodies.  We bring together groups to share knowledge, exchange opinions and we are seen as a credible and influential business voice in the region.

The Forum is managed by a board made up of senior executives and leaders of the member bodies, led by an independent chairman who is nominated by the full board.   John Cuthbert, chief executive of Northumbrian Water is the current chair and Sheila Chapman is the co-ordinator. who manages Forum activities supported by a small administrative  team based at the North East Chamber of Commerce.

A steering group led by the chairman, helps to determine the Forum priorities.  Policy groups, made up of key business support organisations are set up as the need requires, to consult with public sector bodies and provide feedback on regional policy issues.

As pro-active engagement with government agencies is a critical part of our work, senior executives from One NorthEast and Government Office North East, are invited to attend board meetings.  The Forum has built up a trusting relationship with regional decision makers which means they do listen and act on private sector recommendations.
