Northern Business Forum
What we do
NBF aims to ensure the voice of business in the region is heard and that business plays its role in developing the regional economy. Through the extensive coverage of our member organisations, we are able to bring business priorities to the attention of the region's governing bodies and national government. NBF acts as a conduit for information on regional public policy and we add weight to the lobbying activities of our constituent members. Our role is to ensure private sector priorities are reflected in the work of the key govening bodies. This is achieved through effective lobbying, influencing and consultation.
Engaging with regional and national policy and decision makers including senior civil servants, Politicians, MPs and Government Ministers is key to our work. Current areas of interest include transport, skills, education, regeneration and regional governance. Here are some examples of our lobbying activities.
Regional Economic Strategy - We facilitated consultations with OneNorthEast and engagement with senior executives at One NorthEast, gave our board members the opportunity to influence the direction of the strategy and ensure that private sector priorities were reflected in the document.
Regional Funding Allocations Transport - NBF organised regular meetings to assist the Interim Regional Transport Board with priorities for transport investment. The consultations enable our board members and their nominated individuals to consider priorities for regional transport schemes and assess the funding priorities for the region.
Regional Economic Performance - NBF worked with the Association of North East Councils and others in a dialogue with government on the emerging Local Enterprise Structures arguing strongly that a continuing regional dialogue was a key component of delivering national and regional objectives for the regional economy.
Ministerial Events - We have hosted a number of events with Government Ministers and senior civil servants.
